After many years of driving my parents crazy by forever rearranging my bedroom, my parents’ bedroom, shifting furniture around the lounge and endless artwork on walls, I discovered Interior Design was a career. It was an interest that I slowly gravitated towards in my final years of High School, and then progressed to design school. It wasn’t till I began working in the industry that I realised it was a passion- I just thought everyone did this! I am totally inspired daily by design. It has to do with the cutlery you hold, the function of a comfortable chair; the inspiration of texture and the patterns of nature. It is evident when you enter a hotel foyer, a shop, a home interior and how it affects your mood.

I attend many design exhibitions and trade shows to keep up with what is happening in the design world, but when making decisions on what I design it ultimately comes down to what the client wants. How they want to feel in their interior, and what they want it to do for them as they go about their daily lifestyle. I find nothing better than when a client sees their home change and grow before their eyes and the smiles on their faces when it all comes together. That is what an interior should do for you. It should be a place that makes you smile.

We all have different things we want to achieve and create in our home but there are basics you can put into practice that will guide and inform you to help achieve the home you want. In this column I will raise important subjects and share ways to achieve an interior that will be the place you want to feel part of.

I am excited in sharing my passion of Interior Design with you each month and free to e-mail me directly via the "Ask a Question" button at the top of this page. with any questions you have.

Not 'way out' or overdone, a bit of practical re-design and re-furbishment made it all look so much better. What a pity though that they didn't accept their early offer of $680,000 instead of spending another $14,000, and then only getting $695,000. All that interest on their mortgage over the months wasted. Your part was excelent Shaynna.

Hi Shaynna, just wanted to say I really enjoyed the show and the makeover. Could you please give me some advice on how to start a career in interior design - where to study etc. Thank you and I look forward to more episodes.

Hi Shaynna - I loved the episode last night was a great inspiration to get started on our own home. What would be your top 3 tips when decorating a home for the first time?

Hi Shaynna. Great job on the first episode of the show, I thought it was very well done. I must ask if you prefer the newer homes or older homes to decorate - which do you find easier/more challenging?
    Keep up the great work.
