I started selling houses, at what seems a mad age now, 17 years old. Apart from a couple of years’ break, one year out in Australia, the other to try something else (that didn’t work), all I have done has been involved with selling houses since 1984. I love residential property of all types, the whole subject fascinates me. The array of different structures, ages, styles, the huge variations in condition and the way people live, the people themselves and the whole process. It is the only job where you get to look in every room of people’s private homes, even the cupboards. Just think how many I have been in. I have tried to work it out – I got to 10,000 and up! Remember that isn’t a quick glimpse in to the entry area or a quick look in the lounge room, that is a full nose around!

Unlike Valuers or Surveyors, not only do we look at the homes, we get involved with the owners, the buyers, the viewers, their comments etc. That is why I do know what sells a house and how to ascertain an accurate price- it is pure experience.

The involvement with utilizing this experience for TV came about by accident back in 2001. TV work couldn’t be further away from my comfortable world of houses, so I did hate it for the first year or two, and then the pay cheques got a little bigger so I carried on. Plus, I started to embrace the whole situation and the opportunity it gave me to be really honest and help people stuck in their own homes. If any of you have ever been in that situation, you will know if you really need to sell and can’t, it is hell!

Selling Houses in Australia, Europe and the UK – I am always being asked what the differences are. There are the obvious differences- house types, prices, requirements etc. As for the buyers wanting everything for very little and the sellers wanting above market value because their home is the best – well, that is the same worldwide!

By the way, my wife, 3 kids, 2 silly dogs and I love Australia and moving here was a great decision!

Now you know about me, I hope you all enjoy the show! Let me know if you have questions because I am on hand to help. You can e-mail me directly via the "Ask a Question" button at the top of this page.

Hi Andrew and welcome to Oz. I actually became a real estate agent because of you. I have loved watching your shows since they first started in Australia. Unfortunately it didn't last as the company that I worked with was not as ethical as they made out to be.

Please keep up the great work - it's an absolute joy to have such great TV and fabulous advice. Now if we could get more agents to be like you..........................

Welcome to Australia. I have watched your series since it began on Lifestyle and loved it. I have listened to what you have said regarding the best way to sell a house and have de-cluttered, cleaned and presented my home for sale accordingly. I hope that I have a relatively quick sale and get the price that I am asking.
    Thanks again.

    Hi,
That's great that you live in Australia now! I always really enjoyed watching your UK show, and thought it was just a one-off treat to have you filming in Australia.

Fingers crossed that you continue the show for more than the current series.

    Thanks.

P.S Loved it when you referred to that shower in the Botany house as "the black hole of Calcutta"!

Andrew thank you for your Selling Houses Australia. You manage to make the process fascinating and entertaining. Our sympathies are always with you when difficult and stubborn people refuse to take your advice and you have a clever way of gently deflating them with your wicked (British?) sense of humour. The crack about the huge bed being "Very Dubai" was a classic example!!! Looking forward to next weeks episode.

    Hi Andrew,
I was so surprised to read that you live in Australia. We are lucky to have you here! I have watched selling houses, the british version since it started on the lifestyle channel.
I want to thank you for the inspiration in selling our previous home. The real estate agent said it was fine as it was,but I tried to look at our home through your honest eyes and made some much needed changes, including decluttering! Needless to say our home sold quickly. I just wish all real estate agents were as straight forward and forthcoming with advice as you are. Keep up the good work!

First of all, welcome to Australia on a permanent basis! I am a big fan of the series ever since I started watching while living in Nottingham in the UK. This current step of 'Selling Houses Australia is a great step, and I am even more impressed that the first episode was in the Illawarra region. Thanks for bringing common sense back to the Australian housing market!
